LRT-2 and MRT-3 to Offer Free Rides

Commuters using the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will be able to ride for free during select hours on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in observance of Rizal Day.

According to rail authorities, the free ride program, locally known as libreng sakay, will be available twice during the day—from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The initiative aims to accommodate commuters during peak hours while honoring the national holiday.

Malacañang has earlier declared December 30 as a regular holiday to commemorate Rizal Day.

The annual observance marks the death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippines’ national hero, who was executed by firing squad on December 30, 1896, at Bagumbayan, now known as Rizal Park. He was charged with rebellion by the Spanish colonial government.

Rizal’s execution became a turning point in Philippine history, fueling nationalist sentiment and strengthening the movement that eventually led to the Philippine Revolution and the country’s struggle for independence.

Rail officials encourage passengers to take advantage of the free ride periods while reminding commuters to follow station guidelines and safety protocols.
