Wise Expands Ways to Receive and Spend as Filipinos Live and Work Internationally

Wise

New capabilities support everyday spending with QR Ph, enable Filipinos and any Wise user abroad to get PHP account details, and increase real-time receive limits for businesses to PHP 500,000

Manila, Philippines – 13 August, 2026 – Filipinos have always been globally connected but their financial needs have evolved far beyond just sending remittances home. Today, living across currencies is becoming a norm for even more Filipinos, fuelled by a thriving freelance economy earning international salaries and a growing appetite for outbound travel. As a result, the way Filipinos receive, spend and send money is changing – a shift set to accelerate with 81% of young Filipinos willing to live and work abroad.

To meet the needs of global money movement, Wise connects directly to domestic payment networks to deliver faster, cheaper and more transparent cross-border transfers. In the Philippines, Wise’s connection to InstaPay and PESONet has also enabled new ways for consumers and businesses to move to PHP.

Receive PHP with local account details

Wise customers in the Philippines can already receive payments in major currencies like USD, GBP and AUD with account details. Now, Wise is expanding its offerings to make PHP more accessible – a game-changer for the over 10% of the Philippines’ population living abroad.

Filipinos living outside the Philippines and Wise users globally can now get PHP account details through Wise without having to set up a traditional local bank account or visit a physical branch. They can simply share these details to receive PHP transfers from employers, clients, friends and family via the same InstaPay and PESONet payment networks.

Receiving money easily is only the first step; spending it conveniently is just as important.

Instant, everyday spending via QR Ph

Wise customers can now scan and pay using QR Ph for everyday local transactions in the Philippines using PHP or any currency that they have in their Wise Account, directly from their Wise balance. This means travellers visiting the Philippines can easily spend without needing a local bank account or e-wallet. Similarly, anyone receiving through Wise – such as freelancers earning from international clients – can set an Auto Conversion target rate to convert earnings to PHP, and spend or pay bills in the Philippines from their Wise balance, all with one app.

Higher real-time receiving limits for small businesses

Cash flow remains one of the biggest operational and growth bottlenecks for small businesses. Operating on limited access to credit, the majority of small businesses rely heavily on incoming payments for daily operational needs like meeting payroll, purchasing inventory and paying suppliers.

To help ease this liquidity squeeze, Wise is enabling its Business Account customers to receive higher instant domestic payments of PHP 500,000 through InstaPay for Business. Powered by Wise’s direct connection to InstaPay, Wise is among the first financial institutions in the Philippines to roll out this capability.

“Managing international money is becoming an everyday reality for many Filipinos as they increasingly live and do business across borders,” said Areson Cuevas, Country Manager of Wise Philippines. “By integrating with domestic payment networks, we’re making the Philippine Peso more accessible – helping Wise customers move money into, out of, and across the Philippines in a much faster, cheaper and simpler way.”

Since launching in the Philippines in 2024, Wise has continued to expand its products, partnerships and infrastructure to support the evolving needs of Filipino consumers and businesses.

These new capabilities build on Wise’s continued growth in the Philippines, including the introduction of Wise Account and Card, Wise Business, as well as the expansion of Wise Platform through its partnership with GoTyme Bank – which enables customers to send money directly to more than 200 countries and territories through the GoTyme Bank app.
