The 26th Career Counseling and Guidance Fair (CCGF) scheduled on Sept 3 – 5, 2014 at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) has generated huge interest with high schools in Metro Manila and the environs. Endorsed by DepEd, CHED and TESDA, the 26th CCGF show-cases the most popular Philippine colleges and universities and some of the best-known institutions from Australia. More than 10,070 High School Juniors and Seniors from over 125 high schools have already confirmed their attendance. They will be coming to the exhibit on official field-trips, organized by their high schools, to find out about courses, colleges and careers and how to make a good decision for their studies after high school.
Part of the reason for the huge interest in the 26th CCGF and the large number of attendees is the exceptional range of Philippines colleges/universities show-casing their courses and capabilities at the event. Currently these include Mapua, the Ateneo, CEU, SFU, LPU, UST, UP, FEU, SISC, St. Pauls (Manila & QC), Adamson, Letran, Fatima, AMA, Global Academy, Enderun, PATTS, iAcademy, Assumption, San Beda, PCU, MFI Foundation, La Consolacion, Treston, APC, Angelicum, Trinty, Manila Times College, TIP, World Citi Colleges, MCHA, FEU (IT) and the Ricky Reyes Learning Institute. The popular overseas institutions include Australian Int’l School with Australian Catholic University, the Canadian Tourism Academy, William Angliss Institute, Blue Mountain IHMS, Le Cordon Bleu and the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade).
The organizers, Inter-Ed of Makati said that the number of high school students attending will be the largest number in the event’s 26 year history, and that the 2014 CCGF will be over three days to accommodate the confirmed numbers of attendees. As well as the exhibit, students will be able to attend talks on subject areas that interest them and find out more about course content and the careers that the courses lead to. Experienced speakers from the exhibiting schools will be sharing their knowledge and expertise with students in the areas of Business, Science & Engineering, Art & Design, Culinary and Hospitality, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Health Sciences. For school administrators and Guidance Counselors there will be seminars on the K-12 Curriculum, ASEAN integration (Education & Labor Mobility) and Practical Career Counseling. The last of the seminars will be delivered by Profiles Asia which specializes in career aptitude assessment for students and will be making their detailed Career Interest Profiler available for free to all high school students attending.
Roger Bartholomew, President of Inter-Ed said that all schools and colleges are facing challenges with the introduction of the K-12 curriculum and the adaptation of the new school year, and need to understand the advantages that these will have for their students if approached in the right way. The Philippines has an important role to play in education in SE Asia and Australiasia to ensure a bright future for all our graduates. The 26th CCGF will go a long way towards answering students’ questions about the changes that are taking place and the implications for each and every high school student.
Bartholomew also commented that companies supporting this education initiative such as Jobs180.com, Red Fox, Sterling, Bio-Essence, Enchanted Kingdom, Ocean Park, When-in-Manila help to ensure that students/teachers get an exciting and highly positive experience for the whole event. Student activities in the Entrance Lobby – Cheerleading, martial arts displays, Choirs, Bands, Graphic Illustration, Culinary Demos, CPR & 1st Aid – combined with sponsors’ tokens all add up to a really worthwhile day for high schools and their students and make the 26th CCGF a “Must See” event.
