Globe advances its efforts towards achieving net-zero in its operations with the ceremonial signing and turnover of the “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge to the First Abacus Financial Center Condominium Corporation (FAFCCC), which houses The Globe Tower Cebu (TGTC).
The event marked the full transition of TGTC to 100% renewable energy, underscoring Globe’s dedication to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
FAFCCC has been instrumental in the shift of the 19-story TGTC to 100% renewable energy through a partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the supply retail arm of Ayala Corporation’s ACEN.
“Being the first publicly-listed company in the Philippines to have approved near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) inspires us to press on with our net zero ambitions with even greater determination. This partnership reaffirms our resolve to green our network and facilities and collaborate with sustainability-driven companies,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.
Electricity consumption, which accounts for approximately 30% of Globe’s total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, remains a key focus of the company’s decarbonization strategy.
By aligning its approach with the national policy on renewable energy utilization, Globe is advancing its efforts to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen business resilience.
Globe currently operates 33 sites on renewable energy, 22 of these supported through medium-term to long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with ACEN RES, its partner since 2019. Leveraging strategic collaborations, Globe aims to power more than 100 sites with clean energy by 2026.
Moreover, the recent opening of the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA), Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), and Retail Aggregation Program in Mindanao is expected to further accelerate Globe’s renewable energy shift.
These developments will enable better access to clean energy, supporting Globe’s objective of reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
Beyond operational changes, Globe strengthens its policies to encourage suppliers to adopt sustainable practices and integrate essential environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into their business priorities.
Reinforcing its leadership in environmental sustainability in the Philippine telco sector, Globe remains committed to engaging more stakeholders and championing practices that will take sustainability forward.
