Netflix to Adjust Subscription Fees in the Philippines Starting June 2025 Due to New VAT Law

Starting June 1, 2025, Netflix subscribers in the Philippines will see updated subscription prices as the popular streaming platform adjusts to the newly mandated 12% value-added tax (VAT) on digital services.

In a recent advisory sent to local users, Netflix announced that all membership plans will reflect the VAT, aligning with the implementation of Republic Act No. 12023. The law, signed earlier by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., requires foreign digital service providers to charge 12% VAT on services such as streaming, music, advertising, and other digital media.

New Monthly Netflix Subscription Rates in the Philippines:

  • Mobile Plan – ₱169
  • Basic Plan – ₱279
  • Standard Plan – ₱449 (+₱169 per additional member)
  • Premium Plan – ₱619 (+₱169 per additional member, up to two members)

These changes represent an increase from the previous pricing, which stood at ₱149 for Mobile, ₱249 for Basic, ₱399 for Standard, and ₱549 for Premium. Additional member access was previously priced at ₱149 per slot.

This pricing adjustment is in compliance with RA 12023, aimed at ensuring fair competition between traditional local businesses and global digital service providers operating in the country. The law covers a broad range of digital platforms offering entertainment, advertising, and software services.

Netflix is not alone in implementing price revisions. Steam, the gaming platform operated by Valve Corporation, also announced price increases earlier this year in response to the same VAT regulation.

For Filipino consumers, this change means a slightly higher monthly fee but also reflects the growing integration of digital platforms into the country’s economic and tax systems. As the digital economy expands, similar pricing updates may be expected across other global services.
