In a significant move to support the informal sector, DoubleDragon Corporation has committed to fully subsidizing the Social Security System (SSS) contributions of 2,000 workers in Iloilo City and Roxas City for a full year. This initiative, amounting to a total of PHP 18.2 million, aims to bridge financial gaps that often prevent informal workers from accessing crucial social security benefits.
The partnership was officially sealed through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph Montes De Claro and DoubleDragon Chairman Edgar “Injap” Sia II. The collaboration positions DoubleDragon as an SSS Contribution Subsidy Provider, reinforcing the company’s dedication to social responsibility and economic empowerment.
De Claro expressed gratitude to DoubleDragon and its leadership for answering the call for businesses and government entities to participate in the SSS Contribution Subsidy Provider Program (CSPP). He emphasized that this initiative will not only benefit the 2,000 selected workers but will also extend protection to their families, granting them access to financial security in times of need.
“This subsidy ensures that informal workers are not left behind. By gaining SSS membership, they can avail themselves of essential benefits, including retirement, disability, maternity, and sickness assistance,” De Claro stated. He further acknowledged DoubleDragon’s long-standing relationship with SSS, citing its early financial backing that helped shape the company’s growth.
Under the CSPP framework, private and government entities commit to covering the SSS contributions of self-employed individuals, land-based Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), and voluntary members for a minimum of six consecutive months. By taking part in this program, DoubleDragon aims to make a lasting difference in the lives of low-income earners who often struggle with financial stability.
Reflecting on his personal journey, Sia shared that his partnership with SSS dates back to 1997 when he secured a corporate loan that enabled him to build his first 59-room hotel in Iloilo City. Now, nearly three decades later, he sees this initiative as a meaningful way to give back and uplift fellow Filipinos.
“I want to express my deepest appreciation to PCEO Jay for spearheading this program. It allows entrepreneurs like me to pay it forward by supporting thousands of hardworking individuals who need a boost to improve their lives,” Sia said.
With this commitment, DoubleDragon reinforces its role in driving inclusive economic growth, ensuring that more Filipinos have access to financial security and stability through SSS. As the company continues to expand, its dedication to nation-building remains steadfast, setting a precedent for corporate social responsibility in the business sector.
