Overseas Filipino workers (OFW’s) may soon avail of a free livelihood training package from the Technology Resource Center (TRC) when they purchase livelihood tools at Duty Free stores.

In a memorandum of agreement (MOA) recently signed between the TRC and the Duty Free Philippines Corporation (DFPC), the two government corporations shall provide appropriate livelihood trainings for free to business-minded OFW’s who purchase livelihood tools at any Duty Free outlets. TRC Director General Dennis Cunanan said the program is an excellent opportunity for OFW’s to break into entrepreneurship taking note of the big extra value they get on top of the usual tax-exempt shopping privileges. “Being successful in business is all about taking full advantage of great opportunities,” Cunanan said. “And I believe this is one such opportunity every returning or visiting OFW should really consider,” he added.

Under the program, DFPC shall shoulder the cost of the training, which will be provided by TRC at special discounted rates. TRC will also hold special Magnegosyo Forum and provide exclusive livelihood counseling to the OFW beneficiaries to help them decide what business to pursue. Only one free training package will be provided for every OFW beneficiary. They may, however, elect a close relative or friend to get the free training in their stead.

DFPC Chief Operating Officer Lorenzo Formoso noted that they would primarily zero-in on TRC courses for setting up food-related businesses particularly those involving food processing, meat processing, Chinese dimsum and bread making.
