The Social Security System (SSS) has invited employers, members and pensioners to take part in a grand celebration of the agency’s 55th anniversary at the “Stakeholders’ Day” event that will be held in 14 locations all over the country on Saturday, September 1.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Emilio de Quiros, Jr. said the day-long event for stakeholders is part of the run-up to the SSS main anniversary celebration on Monday, September 3, which will be graced by President Benigno Aquino III as guest-of-honor.
“During ‘Stakeholders’ Day’, employers and members can look forward to lectures on benefits and privileges so that they’ll know the value of active SSS membership for themselves, their dependents and employees. We will also offer SSS services such as online inquiry and on-site enrollments for the Unified Multipurpose ID or UMID,” he explained.
The Stakeholders’ Day will be simultaneously held at Robinsons Metro East (Marikina), Robinsons Nova Market (Novaliches), Robinsons Dasmariñas (Bacoor, Cavite), Robinsons Sta. Rosa Market (Biñan, Laguna), Robinsons Star Mills (San Fernando, Pampanga), Robinsons Place Iloilo (Iloilo City), Robinsons Place Tacloban (Tacloban City) and SM Cagayan de Oro.
SSS branches in Pasig Shaw, Manila, Naga, Baguio, Zamboanga and Panabo City in Davao del Norte will also host the Stakeholders’ Day for members and companies in their respective areas of coverage on September 1.
The SSS started operations on September 1, 1957 after bills amending the Social Security Act of 1954 paved the way for the implementation of the landmark law. The state-run pension fund has over 29.4 million members and about 900,000 registered employers at present.
De Quiros said this year’s anniversary theme, “Sa SSS: Kabuhayang Pinagsikapan, Seguridad Maaasahan,” highlights the institution’s role as an instrument for workers to reap the benefits of their hard work until their retirement years and to provide security for their family.
The agency kicked off its 55th anniversary celebration with the annual SSS “Balikat ng Bayan” awards for top-performing employers, banks and media partners on August 30. It also held a press conference simultaneously joined by Manila-, Baguio- and Cebu-based media on August 31.
Other activities lined up are the opening of the SSS anniversary exhibit and the yearly SSS Employees Awards on September 3 at the SSS main office, the Medical Services Mission by various SSS branches on September 5, and SSS Employees’ Talent Competition on September 7, de Quiros noted.
“Cash and other prizes are in store for Grand Raffle Draw winners of the SSS Member-Get-Member (MGM) promo on September 7. One lucky OFW will win the Grand Prize of an all-expenses paid trip back to the Philippines and a vacation package to Boracay for two,” he added.
A total of 54 winners have received P10,000 each during the monthly MGM raffle draws held from January to June 2012. A cash prize of P50,000 and a plaque of appreciation await the OFW with the highest number of OFW referrals during the MGM promo period.
“Reaching our 55th year of service is a huge achievement for SSS, considering the ups and downs that this institution has endured through the years. We are still standing strong and it is just apt that we give back to our stakeholders the kind of service that they deserve,” de Quiros remarked. – Sigfredo Ibay
