Globe commits to push through with its aggressive network builds to meet the growing demand for faster and better internet connectivity despite the recent reimposition of stricter quarantine restrictions in Metro Manila due to the continuing pandemic.
Speaking at the Annual Stockholders’ Meeting held recently, Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said that the experience gained by the company during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) last year has allowed the company to respond better under the current situation. Cu said that stringent measures under MECQ will have little effect on the company’s ongoing infrastructure rollout.
“In order to increase capacity and availability in Metro Manila, we will continue to deploy regardless of quarantine status. We are focused on improving our network services and we hope our efforts will address the continued demand for connectivity which is especially vital in this time of crisis,” said Cu.
Globe’s ambitious network upgrade especially the migration of customers to 4G LTE technology is going full speed ahead. The migration is being done to provide Globe mobile customers with better data experience. In addition, Globe is also upgrading its home broadband customers to fiber lines for faster internet speeds and better service quality.
For this year, Globe is allocating a massive capex investment of P70 billion which includes the building of approximately 2,000 new cell sites and the rolling out of over one million fiber to the home lines.
“We remain committed to our capital expenditure and we want to be able to meet and spend that amount and possibly even more in rolling out mobile services as well as fiber to deliver first world internet services in the country,” Cu added.
In 2020, Globe was able to build close to 1,300 cell sites, a new record for the company, 18% higher than 2019. In addition to building new sites, Globe upgraded over 11,500 sites with 4G/LTE, resulting in improved network experience.
Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) particularly UN SDG No. 9 that highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.
