The DTI-Bureau of Domestic Trade (BDT) employs different marketing strategies in promoting the products of the MSMEs. These strategies include providing market matching services where buyers are linked with suppliers, facilitating product sourcing missions where buyers are brought to the provinces to source their required products, organizing trade fairs where suppliers from all over the country are brought to Manila to make their products more accessible to NCR buyers, and publishing guidebooks and sourcebooks where both buyers and suppliers can acquire market information that are essential to their operations.
Organizing a trade fair is one of the most effective marketing strategies that the bureau implements, particularly with regard to promoting food products. It must be notedthat 50% of MSMEs belong to the food and beverage sector. In previous events, the food and beverage sector as well as the home sector generated the biggest sales.
Through the National food Fair, we are developing a new strategy that will focus on an industry with a competitive advantage. The food sector has immense potential for creating employment and developing various backward and forward linkages. It has a great attraction for buyers both wholesale and retail.
The National Food Fair, branded as Sikat Pinoy: Piling-Piling Pagkaing Pilipino, is organized in cooperation with the DTI Regional and Provincial Offices, the Department of Agriculture, and other major partners.
