Globe subsidiary and technology company Yondu is optimistic about maintaining its revenue growth in 2021 given the increasing demand for technology solutions since the pandemic started. This is after the company turned in a banner year in 2020 and helped lead the significant growth in Globe’s non-telco revenues.

“We see the need for business continuity as a critical driver for growth. People are now more oriented to the crucial role of technology in making enterprises more resilient and future-ready, expediting businesses’ digital transformation,” said Yondu President and CEO Joan Penaflorida.

She explained further that the pandemic has increased the need for enterprises to think outside the box and adopt innovative ways to stay in business, as brick-and-mortar setups experience limited foot traffic while people observe physical distancing protocols.

Yondu, the technology-arm of Globe, is one of the top information technology players in the Philippines. It promotes a digitally-savvy society by delivering solutions such as IT services, service management, software development, and turnkey solutions, among others, to various organizations.

Two Yondu-developed products in particular, Health Management for Enterprise (HealthMe) and Vessell saw significant market success in 2020. HealthMe is a mobile application that allows companies to keep track of employees’ health digitally and remotely, while Vessell is an e-commerce platform builder that gives business owners the ability to create their own personalized online store.

“People have placed the utmost importance on their health and safety, which makes contactless solutions viable innovations. We believe that there is a plethora of opportunities in this innovation, especially when we integrate the Internet of Things,” said Penaflorida.

Both Yondu and another Globe subsidiary, Electronic Commerce Payments, Inc. or ECPay, led the surge in Globe’s non-telco revenues in 2020. The company’s non-telco products and services generated a total of P1.3 billion in revenues as of end-December 2020, up 99% from the previous year.

Penaflorida believes that despite Yondu’s recent success, there is still significant room for growth especially when helping businesses with their digital shift. “As companies are forced to shift to a remote working setup, which in turn requires high internet connectivity, we can help them scale up despite infrastructure limitations by leveraging on our expertise in technology, more specifically our custom development solutions,” she explained.

“It has been our best practice to understand the pain points, needs, and goals of the businesses we are partnering with, and to customize innovative and tailor-fit solutions based on their requirements, existing assets, and capabilities.”

Through subsidiaries such as Yondu, Globe continues to build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 9.
