Social Security System (SSS) President CEO Michael G. Regino announced that starting July 1, 2022, self-employed members aged 60 to 64 years will be covered by mandatory online filing of retirement benefit.

Mandatory online filing of retirement benefit was previously implemented in July 2020 for all employed members, voluntary members, land-based Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) members and self-employed members aged 65 and above.

“Since 2015, our online facility has been available for members at the technical retirement age of 65. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been making enhancements to make their filing simpler and more convenient that they no longer need. to join the SSS branches. All they have to do is access their My.SSS account, click Apply for Retirement Benefit under the Benefits section of the E-Services tab, fill in the required information, and submit the required supporting documents, ” statement by Regino.

Members with the following “special cases” on retirement benefits should still go and file at any SSS branch or foreign representative office:

  • There is an outstanding balance in the Stock Investment Loan Program (SILP)/ Privatization Loan Program/ Educational Loan/ Vocational Technology Loan;
  • Have a child/children under their care;
  • Where the member is incompetent, in custody, or confined to an appropriate institution such as a penitentiary, correctional institution, or rehabilitation center;
  • There is an application of Portability Law or Bilateral Social Security Agreements;
  • There is an adjustment or there is a re-adjudication of the claim; at
  • There is an unclaimed benefit of a deceased member

Retirement benefit is a cash benefit provided to a member who is unable to work due to old age and has reached the prescribed retirement age. His benefit could be a monthly pension for those who paid at least 120 monthly contributions before the retirement semester or a grant (lump sum) for those who paid less than 120 contributions.
