PhilHealth Urges Filipinos to Maximize Thyroid Cancer Benefit Packages

Philhealth Thyroid Cancer Benefit Packages

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is encouraging Filipinos to make full use of its benefit packages for thyroid cancer diagnosis, treatment, and surgery, in line with the National Thyroid Cancer Awareness Week held every last week of September under Republic Act 10786.

Raising Awareness on Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid cancer is among the most common cancers in the Philippines, yet it is also one of the most treatable forms of cancer when detected early. Health experts emphasize the importance of being aware of common symptoms, including:

  • A lump or swelling in the neck
  • Persistent changes in voice
  • Difficulty swallowing or breathing

Early consultation and regular check-ups can lead to timely treatment and better recovery outcomes.

PhilHealth Thyroid Cancer Benefit Packages

To help patients manage the high cost of treatment, PhilHealth provides the following financial support packages:

  • ₱22,230 for Malignant Neoplasm of the Thyroid Gland (Thyroid Cancer) – covering a portion of expenses for consultation, diagnostic procedures, and initial medical management.
  • Up to ₱60,450 for a Total or Complete Thyroidectomy.
  • Up to ₱90,675 for complicated thyroidectomy procedures, such as those involving neck dissection.

These benefit packages include coverage for professional fees and hospital charges, giving patients significant relief from out-of-pocket expenses.

Promoting Early Detection and Access to Care

PhilHealth urges the public to:

  • Participate in awareness activities during National Thyroid Cancer Awareness Week
  • Undergo regular health screenings for early detection
  • Familiarize themselves with the full range of PhilHealth benefit packages available for thyroid cancer and other illnesses

Through these initiatives, the agency hopes to lessen the burden of thyroid cancer on Filipino families while promoting early detection, timely treatment, and affordable healthcare access.
